More of Michigan

Continuing images of the Michigan mini-reunion.

A number of times, Tom came by with his boat and treated us. Once it was a trip up the river at Clam River and another brought along more boat toys. Once it was a towable inner tube that was towed along behind the boat…sometimes slower…sometimes faster. To make a hard day on the water complete, nothing beats marshmallows roasted over a fire and made into s'mores.

Then, there's the opportunity for some quiet time. Two young girls with their notebooks, sitting on the dock at sunset.

We just had to take advantage of the Winter Water Wonderland and find a river to do some fishing. We found an access to the Jordan River, a place where I remember that my father had fished. I don't think I ever fished with him so I didn't know exactly where on the fiver he fished but we gave it a try.

The next day was more water sports. Tom brought his boat down and some of the group tried some water skiing though fauna was always interesting.

This northwest area of Michigan seems to be about the only place in the world that has a particular type of fossil coral from the Devonian period, 350 million years ago. So one of the activities at Torch is to collect samples of Petoskey and other fossil corals. Of course we had to do tallest to shortest again as well as oldest to youngest.

Torch Lake is quite a special place. This sign in Alden shares some details. Also, the 45th parallel crosses the lake and roads. Half way between the pole and the equator. And of course, I had to try some more fishing on a little creek that ran into the Jordan River. I had about the same results as on the Jordan.

More times sitting at the table in front of the cabins as the sun was settting. The Wehr boys all lined up. On the road home, into the setting sun, colored by the continuing wild fires in Canada. Encountering a bit of rain on the flat lands.

It was an amazing nearly three weeks with good friends and family that we had not seen much of due to distance and the pandemic. What a treat that was in a very special place.
