camellia blossoms

We have been at this corner before. On my way to work on my bicycle, more often than not, I must stop and wait for trains at this crossing. Sometimes I wait for up to seven trains passing on three tracks.

This snapshot was taken as I was waiting for the trains. The sure sign of winter's end is the blossoming of the camellias. We have one in our yard that is not quite as profuse as these.

popcorn magnolia

Another early bloomer is the magnolia tree. This is one that I call popcorn magnolia because when it is in bloom, it looks like huge kernels of popcorn are stuck on the branches.

These buds are yet to open. By next week, they will be bright white long petals.

gardenia blossoms

Close to the ground around the apartment building near the train crossing is this gardenia bush though todays Daily Yomiuri calls them daphnes. As a flower, they are favored hair accessories for young women wishing to affect a traditional look.

I guess I need to learn some more about flowers.

One of our nearby neighbors has a gardenia bush and its fragrance captures me as I ride my bicycle on my way to the office.
