We have become increasingly tasked with projects that take up our time. These involve work, home projects, work, Candace's busy social life, and more work. As a result, Beverly and I have been visiting some more of the restaurants in our neighborhood.
This week, we stopped in at a new ramen shop next door to the Family Mart. It was clean, well-lit, quite spacious, and lacking in any specific character. Here is Paul with his hashi loaded up with noodles ready to take a big mouthful.
About the only thing that added any character to the place was this old jukebox suggesting that there were 60 Best Tunes. You could look in the window and see the 45 RPM platters, but the machine didn't seem to be working.
What titles were visible included Japanese Enka (pop tunes) and pop music from Britain and the US from the 70s. It is probably just as well that it wasn't working.
The Kirin cold case to the left contains orange juice in the top shelf, Kirin beer on the middle shelf, and sake on the lower shelf.
Beverly enjoys her ramen too. Besides the noodles and the soup, you can see a small patch of seaweed, half an egg, spring onions, perhaps some corn, and a cooked slice of white and pink fish derivative. You can guess the delicious amber beverage at her left.
Beverly often selects the corn-butter ramen, while Paul favors the heavier flavored miso ramen. Miso is a semi-fermented, aged soy bean paste that is a common addition to many Japanese dishes.
