On the way from Christchurch to Twizel in the middle between each coast, we made a number of stops. One for lunch was in a town called Fairlie. As we head south, it is like moving north into the fall. This tree is giving a hint of the fall to come.
Bev found this big trout down the street.
We had our standard road lunch of rolls, deli meat, cheese, and apples. Bev added some coffee from a nearby gas station.
Just across the road, we had parked near this address in Fairlie. The woman was outside mowing her lawn.
After leaving Fairlie, we still had aobut an hour and a half drive to Twizel. We were slowed down a bit by a wood-fired steam tractor. After coming over some mountains, we came upon Lake Tekapo and stopped to look at the expanse of water. The shore was all rocky and people stopping by took the time to stack them up. The area at the viewing area was probably four football fields or more. Note the arch on the left.
If you looked carefully enough, you might find Waldo!
Off in the distance over Lake Tekapo is the snow capped Two Thumb Range.
To the west is the larger Lake Pukaki. Looking up the length of the lake to the NNW, is New Zealand's highest peak, Mt. Cook.
We were looking forward to Twizel, one of the dark places on the planet where star gazing can be quite an experience. Unfortunately, we forgot to plan for the nearly full moon. Oh well, in a couple of weeks, we'll still be in relatively darker skies.
