A number of activities were available while on the Sound. One was a trip on a tender to get a closeup of the ecology of the walls of the sound. Another group went out on kayaks on the calm First Arm.
In the meantime, Paul took some time to inspect the rigging on the ship. He decided that it was all "ship shape."
Inside, Jan and Mike provided some tunes on Mike's ukulele for a sing-along for the passengers. Most of the passengers on this session were in the same generation so many of the tunes were familiar.
We also sailed into the longest arm of Doubtful Sound, thoughtfully named the Long Arm where it was very calm. At the end, the captain turned off all the power on the ship and we were able to just listen to the natural sounds.
On our return to the dock for departure—during breakfast—a quick announcement informed us that there were several bottle-nose dolphins were surfing the bow wave. I managed to get this video of one dolphin coming up for air. The picture here is a still from a video. I'll try to get the video to work when I get to my big machine.
When we got back to Manapouri, they had a lunch waiting for us. Sandwich, muffin-sized quiche, tangerine, sweet potato fries, raspberry and hot cross bun macaroons, dried apricot, and dried banana chips. After lunch, it was off to Dunedin.
