Happy Birthday Candy!
This drive day will only be an hour or so. We have more time in Rotorua so we decided to visit a Kiwi hatchery. Bev stood by this kiwi.
At the entrance to the tour is this Greenstone (possibly jade or jadite) which was rubbed for good luck.
Not being able to photograph live captive kiwi, we had to do with this stuffed female and egg. Hard to imagine this egg coming from a bird this size! We did see some adults as well as a chick that had just hatched that day and another that was just 20 days old!
Also in Rotorua is a redwood forest. Apparently planted in the late 1800s, the same time that redwoods were planted in Heidelberg, Germany. This forest is more extensive than that in Germany covering many acres
Arriving at Taupo in the late afternoon, our rental has its own private kitchen. That will be nice.
