Our stay in Whanganui was just overnight but we did have some daytime to wander around and get a bit of flavor of this town on the river.
A mid-morning checkout and packing our luggage back up the hill to the car and we were ready for another drive—south to Wellington. Paul says goodbye to a little kiwi sculpture.
We knew we were near the coast on the way down so stopped about half way, in Foxton, to find the beach. We found sand dunes but when we reached the crest, figured we were still half a mile from the beach. We retreated.
Taking another tack, we encountered this boat. Now we must be closer! Well. Perhaps not. This boat had not seen water in a long time. Interesting name for a boat.
Finally we found the beach. Mr. Google's directions were somewhat contradictory but Bev lead the way and got us there.
Jan and Mike got right down to it. They didn't go swimming but did enjoy dippping their feet into the Tasman Sea.
Not all the creatures found the beach enjoyable.
On our way out of Foxton, we stopped just long enough to capture this number 9 post box. Werever I go, I seem to run into them. So I collect them.
After messing around a while in Wellington, we took a walk down by the wharves at the harbour and spied out the ferry we'll be taking to the south island in a couple of days. I think Bev booked us in steerage.
