Parking in downtown Wellington was a little more costly than we wanted to pay so we returned the car this morning.
I had parked the car on the rooftop level, under the impression that it was about half the cost. Not so. The is a panorama of the Wellington Harbor from the top of the parking structure.
Gathering everyone, we headed to the Botanical Gardens. To get there, we took a cable car up the side of the hill.
Once at the top, Bev turned around and shot this picture of the bay with the cable car rails in the foreground and what must be a huge KUBB field halfway down the hill.
Around noon, we stopped for a picnic lunch and some treats from the café near the top of the hill. We don't look too happy in this picture but we are having a good time.
There was plenty of opportunities to take pictures of exotic plants in the greenhouse but I only snapped this of a Bird of Paradise.
After visiting the rose garden, the begonia house and the tropical greenhouse, we continued walking down through an old (1800s) cemetery and came on the new parliament building aptly called "The Beehive." Paul and Jan went in and listened to speeches for a bit before coming out. It was interesting to watch a government at work instead of a government self-destructing.
