Egypt in late November

After visiting mosques on Friday, we got together with Mostafa’s brother and sister and their family for a picnic in a park in downtown Cairo. While we had our snacks, crows and feral cats and dogs watched from around the edges to see if they could nab a treat.

On Saturday the 25th, we got our first close up views of the Great Pyramids of Giza. Build in the 26th century B.C.E., these were the largest of the Seven Wonders of the World and the only ones still in existence. But first, we went south to the precursors of the Great Pyramids, namely a step pyramid and the Red Pyramid.

We got back in the van and drove back north to Giza, the site of the Great Pyramids. After spending a couple of hours there we went just southeast to see the Sphinx and the excavated temple area around it. In the meantime, it had snowed in Fort Collins and our young neighbor was out clearing the snow from our sidewalks.

Riding in the van back and forth, we would pass though various parts of the huge city of Cairo. Of course we needed to stop every once in a while to have a snack. Today, Friday evening, we stopped at a huge mall.
