Al Gouna to Alexandria
Back to the main year-end page
From Al Gouna to Alexandria, we did half the journey not too distant from the Red Sea although most of what we saw along the was was rocks and sand, abandonded construction materials, unfinished buildings, and a few oases for gas and snacks.

One bit of excitement is approaching a curve in the road. The scenery was less impressive to a young girl who needed to make sure she was caught up on her studies. And driving into the night.

Our suite at the hotel in Alexandria was longer than our house! There was even a guest bathroom but we did have a good view of the Mediterranean. [The locals seem to like to shorten Alexandria to just Alex.] On our first day we visited the Citadel of Qaitbay formerly the site of the Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

We were on our way to the library. Being readers and having friends who are librarians, the history of the Library of Alexandria and its destruction was interesting—and a warning for the future. While the site of the old library is long gone, we wanted to visit the new library. After that, dinner at a fish restaurant.
